Thank you for visiting! The Hunting Traveller is a collection of some of my writing on dogs, hunting, and stories from the field. Most of my stories involve either Cooper or Traveller, my Boykin Spaniels, as we hunt all across the US for upland birds and waterfowl. I hope that you’ll stay for a bit and read some of my stories. Hopefully you’ll learn a few “do’s”, a whole lot of “don’ts”, and perhaps get a laugh or two along the way. If you’d like to stay up to date on the blog, published articles, or any swag, please use the subscribe button. Thank you again!

"But the nicest thing about all this-and why we’re really there is not the birds brought down at all-is just to be away. “To see the elephant and hear the owl” is all there is."

Thanks to the Old Dogs

Boykin Society Spaniel Magazine, July 2024

As the golden sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the backyard, I watched my old dog, Cooper, shuffle across the grass. Hunting Paradox: Misery & Romance

Boykin Spaniel Magazine, February 2024

In the world of bird hunting, there exists a peculiar dichotomy, a curious dance between suffering and romance, a paradox that only those who've ventured into the wild with shotgun and canine accomplice can truly understand. It's a tale as old as time. This tale in particular, begins with the protagonist, a humble bird hunter, and his trusty Boykin Spaniel, Traveller.

“Well hell, I’m sure I’ll recognize one when I see one right? I mean I’ve seen enough pictures and watched enough hunting shows to know what they look like, right? Where will they be? How do I find them? How do I hunt them? Will Traveller, my young Boykin Spaniel, pick up the scent?”
